Four individuals arrested in connection with the sensational firing incident at Patna’s Paras Hospital, which resulted in the death of a prisoner under treatment, have been granted transit remand by Alipore Court and are being sent to Bihar on Monday, officials confirmed.
On July 17, Chandan Mishra, a notorious criminal out on parole for medical treatment, was shot dead by unidentified assailants inside the hospital premises. In a swift response, Bihar Police, with the assistance of Kolkata Police and the Special Task Force (STF), arrested the main accused, Taushif alias Badshah, from Kolkata, along with three others – Nishu Khan, Harsh, and Bheem – all allegedly involved in the conspiracy.
“Taushif was the main shooter. He has a criminal history, including charges under the NDPS Act, the Arms Act, and attempted murder. The other accused – Nishu Khan, Harsh, and Bheem – also have previous records,” said Patna SSP Kartikey K Sharma. He added that four more suspects remain absconding and efforts are underway to trace them.
According to police, preliminary investigations revealed that the murder plot was orchestrated at Nishu Khan’s residence, and Taushif executed the shooting. While being escorted to Alipore Court, Nishu Khan claimed ignorance of the murder plot, stating he was in Kolkata for spinal surgery following a prior injury related to a land dispute.
“I didn’t know about any plan to kill. I was here with my girlfriend for treatment. Taushif is my brother. He told me Sheru said to shoot Chandan. I was shocked after the incident,” Khan told media.
The police noted that a coordinated team effort between the Kolkata Police and Patna Police was instrumental in the arrests. “Kolkata STF’s support was crucial in tracing and detaining the suspects,” officials added.
Chandan Mishra had several serious criminal cases registered against him. Authorities believe the attack was carried out by a rival gang aiming to settle old scores. The case remains under active investigation.
